Style: romanticism, impressionism
Cellists share a certain rebellious spirit, which urges them to attempt pieces written for violins or other instruments.
They perform with varying amounts of talent and grace, but invariably with the conviction that not only will they perfectly imitate a different instrument, but also add something of their own.
This is what Korean-Canadian artist Dongkyun An excels in.
His debut album is a collection of famous pieces, but what makes the greatest impression is his own interpretation of them.
In the high pitch, he moves with the ease of an acrobat – better than some violinists would.
He also enchants with the beautiful, pure sound of the cello. On the piano he’s accompanied by a wonderful chamber musician.
The recording is perfectly produced and leaves the listener in astonishment and wonder for the incredible talent of the musicians, impeccable intonation and articulation. Additionally, one will find here a plenty of great interpretations – they are thoroughly stylish, but also with a hint of humor or even a note of bravado. To be savored repeatedly.
The record is available in internet stores.
